About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can we enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai

Hello, I just want to make sure I'm understanding the above correctly...I'm traveling from Bangkok back to the US. On our way back to Bangkok from the New York JFK airport, we have a 7 hour layover in Shanghai. We are eligible for a 24 hour transit visa, correct? or 72 hours?

Thanks!
