What visas are needed for cycling from HK to Macau via Guangzhou

My wife and I are South African passport holders. We wish to cycle on holiday from Hong Kong north towards Guangzhou then to Macau and travel by ferry back to Hong Kong. We understand we don't need entry permits for Macau or Hong Kong. Please advise us on requirements regarding Guangzhou.

Myles, you can apply for a tourist L type to Guangzhou. You should first prepare the required documents including your passport and copy of its data page, the completed application form attached with a passport-style photo, transportation arrangement and hotel reservation. And then submit the application to the CVASC to apply for it.
