About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we need visas

We are on a cruise that docks in Shanghai for 1day coming from Japan and traveling on to another
Part of Japan we are told by the cruise company we have to have a visa is this correct.

Frank, according to the 144-hour free transit rule, you need to leave for a different country after your stay in Japan, but you depart from Japan and then go back to the same country, so you don't qualify for the 144-hour free transit.
