About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Two different tickets

Hello, I have a flight to Shanghai SHA with an overnight layover in Beijing. My hotel is at the airport but not airside. This flight is on 1 ticket. My 2nd ticket departs PVG the day I arrive at SHA and the destination is USA. So I arrive in PEK at 19:30, depart PEK at 8am the next day for SHA. I'll take the train to PVG and depart at 18:30 for US. Do I qualify for a transit free visa? Thank you

Hey Mark! If you arrive in Shanghai from a country other than the US, you qualify for the 24-hour free transit. But I'm not sure whether you are allowed to go to Shanghai by train. You had better confirm this before flying to Beijing. Call Beijing Airport Immigration Inspection at 0086-10-56095400.
