Hello there, I am Ethiopian student studying in Australia. Currently, I am planning to go from Australia to Ethiopia for Holidays. Both my departure and return flights has a transit through Hong Kong. So this is to kindly ask if I need a transit permit for my stay in Hong Kong airport for less than 10 hours.kindly,

Yes, you will need a double-entry transit permit for the layovers in HK. You can apply for it through the PRC embassy or consulate in Australia or by posting applicaiton documents to the HK Immigration Department.
