Do hotels expect full payment during check-in or when checking out? (Shanghai-Holiday Inn)

Generally, you need to pay the full payment when you check in the hotel. Besides, you are also required to pay CNY200~300 as a deposit.
You can get it back when you deal with the check-out procedure.
