I'm currently in Hawaii USA and would like to travel to Shanghai - (Flight Honolulu Shanghai via Beijing) and then return to USA via Japan.

Derain, sorry it doesn't apply to you. You can't stop over in other cities out of Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. So you should take a flight from the USA to Shanghai without stopping in Beijing.
