FEC.Forigner expert certificate

well,l came to china with a Z type and was granted a forginer expert certificate as well so when my contract ends with my intial firm l changed job but still in the same province and the expire date on the FEC was 2016, so my new job did mot change my FEC now l need to renew my visa and l was told that my FEC was not changed when l joined this new firm.
My qyestion is ,is it still possible to renew my FEC and go ahead with my resisdence extention?
