Do we need to visit a police station?

I will be in Beijing for less than 72 hours. But we will be staying at a friends house, not a hotel. Do we need to register at a police station?

Colleen, if you stay at your friend’s house, I’m afraid you need to register at the police station.

Thanks Mitchell, and it needs to be within 24hours? Cause we arrive in the evening and the next day plan to get up really early to go see the Great wall...
