About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Thai passport holder will stopover at Beijing for 5 hours, do I need to apply for transit visa?

I am holding Thai passport and going to travel from the United States to Thailand. I will stopover at Beijing for 5 hours. Do I need to apply for transit G type in order to be able to stopover at Beijing for 5 hours? Can I use 24 hours direct transit without applying for transit G type? Thank you.
