We would like to follow the Silk Road from China to Amaty / Kasachstan.

Hello Travel China Guide

Is it better to start in Lanzhou or Xiangyang? Lanzhou does no seem to have much to offer. Then we would like to proceed to Dunhuang by air. Is it then important to fly back to Jiayuguan or can we forget it and go on directly to Hami by taxi?

Thanks for your information

Hi, there! I'm a little bit confused about your starting point. Do you mean Xianyang, a city in Shaanxi Province? If so, I suggest you to start your visit there and you can also travel around Xian, which is not only the capital of Shaanxi but also the starting point of the Silk Road, with numerous historical sites. You'd better not miss Jiayuguan, because it served as the western gate of the state in the past and was an important town along the Silk Road. There are many places worth visiting, such as Jiayuguan Great Wall and the Overhanging Great Wall. You can fly there from Xian. Then, you can head to Dunhuang by train, where the Mogao Caves and Yardang Geological Park are recommended. After that, you can take a long-distance bus to Hami.
Hope this would help! Enjoy your trip!
