About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Follow-Up Question

Hi, following on from my question asked on Aug. 18, 2023 at 15:21

I have a follow-up question as the airline has changed my itinerary.

It was originally as follows:

London Gatwick > Shanghai Pudong (a couple of hours layover) > Tokyo Narita > Tokyo Haneda > Beijing (for a few days) > London Heathrow

But has been changed as follows:

London Heathrow > Beijing (a couple of hours layover) > Tokyo Narita > Tokyo Haneda > Beijing (for a few days) > London Heathrow

Would this still be eligible for the 144 hour visa-free transit?

Thanks

Yes, there is no problem...

Your first segment is actually eligible for 24 hours visa free transit because the layover is shorter than 24 hours. Since we are talking about a couple of hours in Beijing, you will not exit the airport and you will also not cross the immigration you do not have to perform any formality. In reality, you will just cross security check and that's all... From one gate to the other.

Your second segment is a nice example of 144 hour visa free transit, so you will exit the airport absolutely visa free and enjoy the city and the surroundings at your own. You are advised to print out your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation for at least the first night in Beijing. You are fine, just enjoy your journey :)
