Applying for a L visa once my Z type expires

I am currently working in China and my Z type is set to expire on the 15th September. However, I would like to remain in PRC to travel around for a bit. I'm residing in Beijing and hope to transfer on to an L type straight away, without having to exit PRC first. Is it as simple as visiting the PRC to do this? How long before my work Z type expiration should I apply for a L type?

Kelly, yes, it’s simple. You can just go to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB to apply for a tourist L type. You’d better apply for it 7 days earlier before your Z type expires because it usually takes 7 working days to change Z type to L type.
