Tourist visa to student X type conversion

Hello, my student X type expired and it doesn't seem like I'll get the JW02 form to apply for an X type on time. The university asked me to come with a tourist L type and that they'll change it to a student X type. Is this possible?

Yes, it's possible. If the school says so, they must have a way to do this. You can follow the school's advice.
