Can I find a teaching position in China if my first language is not English?

Hello. I have a question, can you please tell me if I can teach in China if my mother tongue is not English?
I want to mention that I have a bachelor's degree in English-Chinese language and literature from the University of Bucharest and I also hold a TEFL certificate and Teaching English to Mandarin Speakers Certificate both provided by University of Toronto. I am qualified as an English teacher, here in Romania and I also have the Teaching Knowledge Diploma from The University of Cambridge.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Roxana, nowadays, if your mother tongue is not English, I'm afraid you can't get the work permit working as a foreign English teacher. Anyway, some teaching organizaitions may have a way to get the work permit for you. You can contact one and see if you can work there.

Where do you get this information? Is it just hearsay or have you actually read somewhere on the FEC or Chinese embassy website that non-native English speakers can't get a valid work Z type or FEC if English is not their first language?

To be an English teacher, as a foreign there are only certain nationalities accepted. However you could be accepted in other teaching or professional positions.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you, this information is pretty confusing. I read on a lot of web sites that you can teach in China only if you are a native English speaker, but on the other hand, I have some Romanian friends having teaching positions in Hong kong and Shanghai. I have read about many other nationalities such Russian, Filipino, Ukrainians and.so, I think it is not a governmental requirement, maybe it depends on every school.
Thank you again for your answer.
Take care!
