LONDON - SHANGHAI - train to HKG - train back to SHANGHAI - LONDON

If I was to fly from LHR to Shanghai, get the train within 24 hours to HKG, then after a week train back to Shanghai and fly straight away back to London, would the free transit visa be applicable?

According to what you said, you can enjoy the free transit for both of your transits in Shanghai as long as you are sure that your second transit in Shanghai won’t exceed 144 hours.
