About:China Transit Visa

Free 24-hour transit visa for Thai people still valid?

I am a Thai citizen travelling to New York, USA, on 1 April 2016, with a 6-hour stop at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG).

Do I need a transit permit if I want to go out to the city center e.g. the Bund, Nanjing East Road, for sightseeing during the transit time?

I heard that the free 24-hour transit permit has been cancelled for the passport holders from these countries: Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE, Oman, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Thailand and Malaysia.

Is it true? Thanks/Regards.

Jamie, you don’t need a transit G type because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit. If you want to leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport and it’s free of charge.
As for your second question, I haven’t seen relevant news. Where did you get it?
