I will be arriving in Shanghai and will like to stay for 4 days. I have an American passport.

I will be applying for a 144 hour free transit. This is in my way to Bangkok. Also on my way back from Bangkok, I have a 10 hour stay at the airport in Shanghai and will apply to have a visa again to sleep near the airport for a few hours. Is there a possibility that they will give me the visa twice. Thank you for your response.
