am a Jamaican who need to visit PRC to purchase items and for vocational purposes.
what are the legal documents needed?

Considering what you said above, you should apply for a tourist L type to PRC.
The legal documents are as following:
1. The filled-out application form affixed with a recently-taken passport-style photo
2. Your passport and copy of its data page
3. Round trip air tickets, accommodation booking record and personal income certificate.
