Hong Kong to Guangzhou by train, can I use the 72 hour visa free transit?

Hi, I'm going to the Canton Fair in Guangzhou. Is it possible to use 72 hours free transit if I arrive by train and leave with airplaine to Thailand?

Jelmer, no, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit because it is only applicable to those travelling by flight.
But if your stopover time in Guangzhou is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. In this case, no entry permit is required. Otherwise, an entry permit is required.
