About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

I am in Shanghai on a tourist visa and have an invitation from the Shanghai govt to work in China.

So, my question is: how do I get the work Z type? Do I, as a US citizen, have to go to the states to get a work Z type?

Henry, you can go to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB and consult if you can convert the current tourist L type to work Z type there. If yes, you just need to prepare the required documents and change it there; if not, I’m afraid you need to exit and then apply for it in your home country.
