How long can my girlfriend and son get to spend in China on tourist visas?

I currently work in Guangzhou and I wish for my Thai gf and our son to come and visit. Since we are not married yet, we are unable to get an S type so I was wondering how long one can stay in PRC on an L type. I realise it's 30 days but what is the maximum number of entries allowed and is it possible to extend an L type once already in PRC. We will be applying for the S type in August, so I would like them to spend as much time in PRC as possible until then. Thanks in advance.

Dear, as far as I know, usually, one can get a 30-day tourist L type. But sometimes, it’s possible for one to get stay duration of 60 days or 90 days. So you can have a try. However, it’s very difficult to get.
Of course, it’s possible for one to extend the tourist L type after entering.
Or you can ask her to try to apply for a multiple-entry tourist L type for 6 months with stay duration of 30 days. If so, she just needs to exit before it expires and then re-enter to get another 30 days.
