aeoctopus in hong kong?

Hi, will be traveling with 8 adults and 3 kids (3yo to 10yo). Will be at HK for 7 nights. May I know which card should I buy? Octopus or AE? A bit confused with the cards available. We will be staying at Shatin area. Can the AE card be used from HKIA to Shatin (as in combine usage of AE + MTR)? Octopus card is only MTR and buses while AE card is for AE + MTR + buses? Just that for buses we have to reload the card to be able to use it? Thanks!

First of all, you are right about all have been said. If you are going to travel by airport express to/from the airport, an AE pass will be more money-saving, which contains one/two AE ride and three days unlimited rides on most metro lines. Yes, to use it on bus, you need to top it up. And on the fourth day, you can add more money to use it as a normal octopus card. If you are not going to take airport express train, an normal Octopus card will be fine.
