About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 / 144 hour free visa transit.

My cruise starts in Singapore ending in Shanghai. Part of the cruise are stops in Sanya and Xiamen. We do not intend to disembark at either. On arrival in Shanghai we stay on the Ship for one night sightseeing in Shanghai and leaving in the morning for the airport for our flight to the U.K. Our tickets are confirmed. We are U.K. Citizens with passports issued there. Do we qualify for a Free Transit.

Stanion, considering your case, you don’t qualify for the 144 hour free transit because the cruise stop in three Chinese cities. As for the 72 hour policy, it is only applicable to those by plane.
But if your total layover time in PRC is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. If not, you should apply for a transit G type in advance of your trip.

Hi Vitas, thanks for your reply to the Stanions, my question is basically the same, we're US citizens our cruise also starts in Singapore, but Hong Kong is the other China city it will stop first, however the cruise concludes in Shanghai but we don't stay overnight, we disembark there, we do plan to fly from Pudong airport to the Philippines, but we have a very late flight, if we tour the city until close to our flight, the free 144 hrs can be applied, correct or should we apply for an entry permit? Just want to make sure.

Thanks and appreciate your info.... Ben

Vitas,
Thanks for your reply. Do not understand your reply to Ben as different to mine as my situation is exactly the same. We do not intend to disembark in SANYA or XIAMEN. The only city is SHANGHAI Where we will be disembarking sightseeing on the day of arrival overnighting on the Ship and leave early the next morning for the Airport. Surely if we remain on board in the two cities it does not constitute an entry into China. Thanks
