My visa doesn't last as long as my itinerary, can I just go to Hong Kong for a day and then re-enter

hello. I received a traveller L type valid for 10 years, multiple entry, but only allows 60 day stays. I sent my itinerary which was for 5 months but that's what it came back as. So I need to leave China before 60 days are up. In fact I need to do it twice. However I cannot find anywhere that says what constitutes "leaving PRC". Can I just go to Hong Kong for a day and then re-enter? My girlfriend wants to go to Thailand. If we go there for a few days, can I then re-enter and have another 60 days to stay in PRC? Any other definitions of what it means to "leave PRC". When someone does leave PRC say to go back to the United States, how long before they can then re-enter on the same multiple visit entry permit, since it's valid for 10 years.

I have friends here, & I love it here, so I want to be extremely careful to do everything by the book and legal, so that I don't jeopardize being able to return.

Eric, you can just go to HK for a day and then re-enter.
Of course, you can also choose to go to Thailand and then go back to PRC, and you will get another 60 days.
‘Leaving PRC” doesn’t mean that you must go back to USA. There is no exact time limit. As far as I know, once you exit, you can re-enter at any time.

Awesome!!! Thanks, Adams. Would you happen to have a link that shows this? I have a girlfriend to convince. :) I've checked with official Chinese sites as well as Department of State in USA, but everything is so vague on what actually constitutes "leaving the PRC." Is the UAE more clear?

Eric, sorry, I don’t have such a link. And I said so because I had the same experience before.
