seattle to shanghai(5 days in city) back to seattle

Question

I am traveling to Shanghai from Seattle and staying in the city for 5 days then flying back out of PVG to Seattle. I will be staying in a Airbnb and with 1 other person.Do I qualify for 144 hour visa?

Zach, you don’t qualify for it because after transiting in Shanghai, you fly back to Seattle, but in principle, you should fly to a third country or region different from Seattle.

So if you were instead flying back to Vancouver, or in to HK then back to Seattle....These free periods are designed for transit on way to other places than where you started...
