About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US citizen arriving Shanghai May 12 by cruise ship. Last port before will be Busan, South Korea.

Will transfer from cruise terminal to airport and fly out to Los Angeles the same day. Will I be able to use the 144 hour transit policy? If so, will there be a special customs counter at the cruise terminal to facilitate this action? Thanks, Kenny

Kenny, you are eligible for the free transit.
You need to go to the frontier inspection at the port and then apply for the 144 hour free transit. There is a special lane for it. You will get a stay permit stamp on your passport. In this case, you can go to the airport to take the flight.

Thank you very much, Alex. I hope I can convince Princess Cruise Line. The guidelines they are going by still say that without a regular visa I probably would not be allowed on the ship in Hong Kong. I will send them this and this site information, and maybe they will give me their approval. It would sure save many many passengers a lot of money. Thanks again, Kenny

Kenny, Did you have any luck convincing Princess that the 144 Hour Free Transit applies. We are taking a Tokyo to Singapore Princess cruise soon and would like to use the 144 Hour Free transit for our one day visit to Shanghai.
