First of all, I'd tell you that both front and rear of the mount are worthwhile: the former has more historial sites like temples and the latter is popular for natural scenery. You can consider hiking from the front and then take the cable car down. Take a shuttle bus to the rear within 20-30min. As the rear of the mount is close to Taian Ancient Town, you can find accommodation there, and the Anping Hotel is the best in the town. If time permits, hike the rear on the next morning. To the dam, you can take bus line 101A at the front of the mountain to reach there directly.
