About:China Visa Application in UK

Do you need a Chinese tourist visa if you plan to visit Guangzhou for 24 hours

We are going on holiday to Hong Kong and plan to visit Guangzhou as our daughter is studying there. However, we only plan to go for 1 night and will not be there longer than 24 hours. Do we still need to apply for a tourist L type

Joe, in normal cases, the entry permit is needed even though you just plan to stay for a night. However, if I were you, I would plan my trip like this: fly from UK to HK and visit the city, then fly from HK to Guangzhou and visit your daughter, after that, fly from Guangzhou to UK. In this way, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit and the entry permit is not required.
