About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

My wife has a thai passport

We will be travelling to Canada via Shanghai and have 12 hour stopover in Shanghai.
I was planning on booking a hotel room near the airport. Will she be able to exit the airport and use the hotel room without a visa?
