Do a Canadian need a visa to change planes in Guangzhou?

I am Canadian, living in Calgary. I am going to visit Vietnam later this month and our flights go through Guangzhou. In other words, we change planes in Guangzhou flying both ways. Do we need an entry permit if we do not plan to leave the airport in Guangzhou?
