Access USA college website while vacationing in China?

We will be going to CN soon. Would I have any problem accessing my school's website in the USA (California) to see homework assignments? What is the best way to be sure I can do this and also to send emails of homework assignments to college class instructors while in Beijing and Shanghai?

Joy, your school's website is still accessible. But the email can be unstable sometimes. Anyway, if you have any problem in accessing, VPN will help you out.

Ben - Thank you so much for the response. I've used VPN in the past for work (it was provided by my work place). I googled and there are a lot of VPN choices. Are there any that would not work - or are there any special considerations - will they all work?
