About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US citizen. Flying from South Korea to Beijing, staying 3 days, flying to Hong Kong, few hours

Hi good morning,

I hope you're having a great day. I realize you are the masters of learning about Chinese Visas, and I wanted to take my one question to the professionals.

I am a US citizen currently living in Jeju, South Korea. May I fly to China for one weekend using the 72 hour free transit under this itinerary?

Stuart, I’m afraid you cannot use the 72 hour free transit in Beijing because according to your travel itinerary, your layover time in Beijing will be more than 72 hours. You should apply for a transit G type or tourist L type in advance of your trip.
As for HK, you can enter there freely for a stay of not exceeding 90 days.

Hi Danny thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it.
I found another flight that flies from Beijing to Hong Kong at 1pm the same day. This would make the entire stay in Beijing less than 72 hours.
Is this feasible?
