About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

Can I get a visa for someone else who is traveling with me to China?

My friend is not a USA citizen and needs a China entry permit. I have a copy of her passport. Does she need to apply for it in person with the original passport? How long does it take to get it?
I am a USA citizen and understand that I can visit China for 72 hours. Is this true?

Sylvia, if you are are in transit and stop only in one PRC city, you can make use of the 72-hour free transit. As for your friend, if she needs PRC entry permit, her original passport should be submited for the application, but she doesn't have to apply in person. She can ask others to submit the application for her. It usually takes four working days to get the passport back.
