Business vs Tourist Visa

I have traveled to China for work before, but want to apply for a 10 year. My manager says that I can just get a tourist type and not have to deal with the invitation letter, and there will be no difference. Is that true?

Laura, if you travel to China for business purpose, I think you had better apply for the M type visa. It's true that some people enter with the L type visa and still conduct business in China, but it's not a wise idea.
