Saipin, I’m afraid you cannot get 72 hour free transit with USA green card. But if you just transit in mainland PRC for less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit and you don’t need to apply for an entry permit; otherwise, you need to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type beforehand.
