Extend M visa into Tourist?

I will be going to China for 89 days on a M type for work. Afterward I'd like to take 3 or 4 days to visit tourist places like the Wall and the Terracotta Warriors. Could I change my M into a tourist type for those final 3 days since the M expires after 90? I don't want to be fined or pay Chinese business taxes for my sightseeing days.

Couldn't you spare several days to travel before your M type expires? If you can, then you needn't apply for a tourist type again. If you can't, I think you might visit local entry and exit management bureau and ask if you can change your M into a L type. If they refuse, then you should go to HK and apply one from there. So far, US citizens still can get Chinese tourist types in HK.
