About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Calculating 72 hours visa free transit

We are looking at a flight from Vancouver to Islamabad via Beijing and would like to spend 3 days seeing Beijing. Our flight would arrive at 15:30 July 15 and depart at 18:30 on July 18. Technically it is 75 hours so I am wondering if we would need to get a regular type as I am not sure how the time is calculated.
Thanks.
Jane

Jane, you are right. It is beyond the 72 hour time limit. In Beijing, the 72 hours counts from when you handle all the transit procedures.
But because you just exceed 3 hours, it’s still possible for you to use the 72 hour free transit. You can go to the airport several hours earlier before your departure time and check in ahead of time, after that, wait at the airport for your flight.
