Upon landing in Beijing these are the formalities in the exact order: upon your landing in Beijing the first thing that you will do will be to fill out arrival card. After that you will perform automatic fingerprinting. With a filled out arrival card and a fingerprinting receipt you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets, filled out arrival card and fingerprinting receipt and a hotel booking confirmation (at least for the first night).
