About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US->3hr layover in Taipei->Shanghai->Taipei, Can I use 72-hr visa free in Shanghai?

Hello,

I am going from the U.S. to Shanghai for 3 days, and then spend a week in Taipei. On the way to Shanghai, the plane will make a 3-hour stop in Taipei. Does the U.S. count as my trip-originating country so I can enjoy the 72-hour free transit in Shanghai? Thanks!

Angel, according to what you said above, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit because after your transit in Shanghai, you fly back to departure region, namely Taipei, while considering the policy, you should fly to a third country or region different from the departure one. If so, you need to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type in advance of your trip.
