Is it possible to get a 10 year tourist visa in my passport that only has 3 years left on it?

I have a passport that expires in 2019 and would like a Chinese L type entry permit. Once it expires in three years can I use my L type in the old passport together with my next passport to enter China?

Fran, you can use this passport to apply for the 10-year L type. After your current passport expires, you can use the old passport together with your new passport to enter PRC.
