About:Hong Kong Visa Policy

US Resident on Tourist Visa to Mainland

Previously had resident permit when spouse was working on mainland but now I will just have a tourist L type traveling from US. If I can get a 2 month duration on a multi-entry, what will I have to do to leave and re-enter? Will it suffice to travel to Hong Kong? Or since I will be leaving from mainland will I need an entry permit to enter Hong Kong? Or will US resident take precedent and I will not need an entry permit to HK? Is there a limit on how many re-entries you can have on a multi-entry? I may use China as a base to travel back and forth to other asian countries.

Laura, you can stay for 2 months and exit to HK when the stay duration runs out. Because you are American passport holder, you can enjoy free entry to HK for a stay of no more than 90 days.
In general, there is no requirement for how many re-entries you can have on a multiple-entry type, but you shouldn’t exit and re-enter frequently, or you may be doubted and interrogated when passing through the frontier inspection.

Thanks For your reply Phil. For exit and reentry after 2 months, Do you know if just one night stay in HK Is sufficient or even same day exit and reentry such as day trip from Shenzen into HK and back?
