Do I qualify if I fly Bangkok to Hong kong (transit) then straight on to Chengdu then back through HK on to bangkok ?

Dan, I’m afraid you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit because you fly back to HK after your transit in Chengdu. But according to the policy, after transit in a Chinese city, you should fly to a third country or region different from your department country or region. You should apply for a transit G type or tourist L type beforehand.
