About:China Visa

Do I need a visa to visit China for a few days from Macau or Hong Kong as a US citizen?

Hello,

We plan to visit Hong Kong, Macau and border cities around HK and Macau. Do we need an entry permit to enter mainland from HK or Macau? Would 72-hour free transit policy apply for this travel? Thank you.

Well, Eleanor, it depends on how arrange the trip. To enable you to use the 72-hour free transit policy, my advice is to take a flight from HK to Guangzhou, then you can travel within the whole province during the 72 hours and most of the border cities are in Guangdong Province. After that, take a flight from Guangzhou to Macau.
