About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

TWOV applicable if returning to same country u depart from?

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help? I have British passport and wish to visit Shanghai from Dubai (only for 24hours) but then return to Dubai afterwards. Does the TWOV apply even though I am returning 2 same place I departed from and not onto a third country?

Wendy, according to the policy, you should fly to a third country or region after your transit in Shanghai. Thus, I’m afraid you cannot enjoy TWOW. You need to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type ahead of your journey.
