chinese visa type for tibet travel permit

Question

I currently have a valid M type (business).  Can I use this to travel as a tourist and get a travel permit, or do I need to get a type L (tourist) type?

Jeff, you can travel with your M type. However, I am afraid that you may not get the travel permit on your own. Individual foreigners are not allowed to travel there alone. You should join a group tour arranged by qualified tour agencies. They can help you get the travel permit.
