Managing sightseeing in Beijing for a ~3 days before flying to Shanghai-from US with business visa?

My husband I are both traveling from U.S. to Shanghai with a business M type for each of us from different companies. We'd like to first fly to Beijiing for 3 days to sightsee. Is this possible? The business letter of invitation would cover us only for work in Shanghai? Please advise.

Actually, as you have already got the M type, you can use it to sightsee the city. Nobody will care whether you enter for business purpose or tourism purpose. Have a good trip.
