About:Requirements for Permanent Residence Permit

Managing Director at global consulting firm

hi,
I have held the post of Managing Director at global consulting firm, based in China, for past 5 years.
Though I am now in process of leaving the firm to pursue a new venture
Do you think this background qualifies me for permanent residence permit?

Thanks,
ROV

ROV, only having five-year working experience cannot enable you to qualify for the permanent residence permit. Did you get married to a Chinese national or a foreigner with permanent reisdence permit here? If not, I'm afraid you cannot get the permanent residence pemermit.

Thanks Brian for your response.

Let me clarify.
I have 15 years of working experience. ~8 of which is senior leadership positions in management consulting. I have been leading all of our Asia offices (~200 staff) for past ~4 years.
I have an MBA from a top 5 US university (not sure if that helps credentials wise).
My wife is from Mainland China. We have been married for ~1 year.

But I am now leaving my job (my last day is coming up soon) - not sure if that affects the equation.
I will be travelling to and from Mainland China in the coming years for business (I will be based in another Asia country from 2016).

Do you think I have a good shot at getting permanent residence permit?
What visa do you recommend i apply for in the meantime (as I will be leaving my job shortly, I will need another visa to hold me over). I am considering to apply for the Q1/family reunion type (as I am hoping it can be provided for a 5 year period) - is that a good idea or do you suggest another type?

Finally, do you have a very reliable but cost effective local agent (I am based in Shanghai) who can help with this process?

Thanks in advance for all of your input.

ROV, I think you can try to apply for the gree card, but the chance is not big. There are mainly two problems. First, you are married for not more than one year while the spousal permanent residence permit requires at least five years of marriage with a Chinese national. Second, you are going to live in another country.

I advise you to apply for the Q1 type. It's the most suitable type for you. Howver, you should know that you can't work in China with the Q1 type.
