Airport not mentioned on list of cities applying the policy

Hi there

I have booked a flight which goes from Europe, to Urumqi (4 hours wait until connecting flight), to Guangzhou (2 hour). I am travelling on a New Zealand passport
What do I need to do to allow transit through Urumqi as this city isn't included in the 72 hour visa free transit policy?

Robert, as you mentioned above, you will transit in two Chinese city, you cannot enjoy 72 hour free transit policy.
Considering that you stop over in PRC for 6 hours in total, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit. In this way, you don’t need to apply for an entry permit in advance.

I would not rely on the information posted by Emily above. Special conditions apply to transits in Urumqi, and travelers should check carefully. Currently I believe there is a maximum 2 hour transit time and citizens of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Syria, Saudia Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen are not allowed to stop there at all.
