About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I am traveling from newyork to India via Shanghai, my layover is 14 hrs at Shanghai airport

do I Have to take any kind of visa for flight transfer, I am holding an indian passport

Neel, you don't need to obtain an entry permit for the flight transfer. During your layover, if you want to go outside and have a tour in the city, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport, which is free of charge.
